A half-century from Gautam Gambhir (64), who batted for more than four hours on the final day, guided India to a draw with South Africa in the third Test in Cape Town as the three-match series ended 1-1. India had lost all four of their previous Test series in South Africa.

A fine century from an injured Jacques Kallis put South Africa in a commanding position to win the third Test and series against India in Cape Town. South Africa had lost 4 for 14 before Kallis hit his 40th Test century and second in the current Test to set India a daunting target of 340 runs to win the Test series decider with just one day left in the game. Harbhajan Singh finished with seven wickets.

Dale Steyn (5/75) bowled South Africa back into the match while Sachin Tendulkar scored his 51st Test century on a fascinating day three of the third Test. A late double-strike from Harbhajan Singh handed India a slight edge as South Africa struggled to 52 for two at close of play.Apart from Tendulkar's heroic 146, Gautam Gambhir (93) and Harbhajan Singh (40) were the other notable contributors as India scored 364 in response to South Africa's first innings total of 362.

Cape Town, day two: Jacques Kallis emulates Ricky Ponting‎, India 142/2 at stumps

Jacques Kallis scored 161 to guide South Africa to a fighting 362, while Indian bowler Sreesanth (5-114) led the charge for the visitors on Day 2 at Cape Town. Kallis, with his second ton in the series after his career-best 201 notout at Centurion, caught up with Ricky Ponting's tally of 39 Test hundreds. Only Sachin has posted more Test hundreds (50).
