SA to play three T20Is on 72-day India tour

South Africa will play three Twenty20 internationals, five ODIs and four Tests on a 72-day tour of India, which runs from September to December, this year.

The ‘Freedom Series’ between India and South Africa begins in Dharamsala as two evenly-matched sides take on each other in the first of the three-match series. Dharamsala has hosted just two ODIs so far, with India winning one in 2014, versus West Indies, and losing a dead-rubber against England in 2013.

South Africa have retained the same 15-man squad that saved the series with Pakistan in the UAE in October for their two home Tests against India later this month. South Africa have won nine and lost only one of their last 13 matches and has a 12-point lead at the top of the ICC rankings. The squad will again be led by captain Graeme Smith, with the backup wicketkeeper position going to Thami Tsolekile ahead of the 20-year-old Quinton de Kock, who hit consecutive centuries against India in the ongoing one-day international series. India has recalled Zaheer Khan to the 17-man Test squad for the two-match Test series in South Africa, where he will be part of a five-man fast bowling line-up, joining Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma. Other than Zaheer, Ambati Rayudu, Wriddhiman Saha and Ravindra Jadeja were the new entrants to the Test squad.The 17-year-old Ambati Rayudu was picked instead of Gautam Gambhir, who has been in good form in the Ranji Trophy this year, scoring an aggregate of 372 runs in the six matches played so far. Among the new "fab four," Rohit Sharma averages 288, Dhawan 81, Pujara 65.50 and Kohli 41.16 in Test cricket.
